Samuel Clemens was one of the greatest American authors in history. His books such as Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, written with the pen name of Mark Twain have all become classics. He was born in 1835 in Missouri, the same year Halley's Comet passed by the Earth.
Clemens would have many careers throughout his life including steam boat operator. He convinced his brother to follow him into the steam boat trade. On June 21, 1858 his brother was killed in an accident. Clemens had a dream of the event before it happened and always felt responsible for the misfortune that befell his brother. This incident sparked Clemens' interest in parapsychology that followed him throughout his life. In 1909, Clemens felt that his time was near.
"I came in with Halley's Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year, and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don't go out with Halley's Comet. The Almighty has said, no doubt: 'Now here are these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.'"
Just as he predicted he passed away on April 21, 1910, only a day after Halley's comet was at its closest point to the Earth.
