Robert Overcracker was a 39 year old Californian who wanted to promote awareness of homelessness. He decided that racing his jet ski towards Horseshoe Falls at Niagara Falls then leaping off at the last minute before he plunged to his death would do the trick. His plan called for a rocket propelled parachute to carry him to safety. On October 1st 1995 he launched his jet ski into the water without any problem and raced towards the falls. Upon leaping off he was undoubtedly dismayed to discover his parachute did not work. Workers from the Maid of the Mist later recovered his body. A vacationing Egyptian captured a photograph of the episode just after Overcracker leaped off his jet ski. Google the name Robert Overcracker and you can see the epic image.
Sadly Overcracker's efforts brought limited attention to homelessness, but he has become a poster child for parachute awareness.
